Leonardo Zunica graduated summa cum laude in Conservatory of Verona in the class of Renzo Bonizzato. Then he followed his pianistic education in Vienna MusikHochschule in the class of Jürg von Vintschger and at the Moscow Conservatory where he entered in the class of world famous piano teacher Lev Naumov. He also increased his pianistic knowledge and repertoire with several concert pianists as Konstantin Bogino, Alfredo Speranza, Virginio Pavarana. His particular musical talent has been appreciated in several national and international competition. In 2001 he get the special award of the jury for Schubert interpretation in XX Bellini International Piano Competition.
He has been regurarly invited in important consert seasons and festival such as Amici della Musica (Verona), I Virtuosi Italiani, Verona Contemporanea Arena Foundation, Società dei Concerti (Milan), International Gubbio Music Festival, International Music Festival Lugano (Switzerland), Imola Piano Academy Concert Season, Sibelius Museum, Kiev Summer Music Festival, Società della Musica (Mantova), Aperto Music Festival Reggio Emilia, Porec International Piano Festival (Croatia), Gubbio Summer Festival. He has been performing as soloist with Orchestra dell’Arena di Verona conducted by Jukka Isaakkila (Oiseaux Exotique by Oliver Messiaen) and with National Philarmonic Orchestra of Ucraine (Concerto for violin and piano and orchestra by Ernest Chausson), I Virtuosi Italiani (Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin). He also has been performing in Fest Saal Vienna Musik Hochschule, Glasgow Academy Concert Hall, Rachmaninov Saal Moscow Conservatory, Teatro Romano Fiesole, Teatro Flavio Vespasiano Rieti, Violin Museum Cremona, and several others.
He collaborates with artists such us David Cohen, Andrea Rucli, Federico Mondelci, Gabriele Mirabassi, Quartetto di Fiesole, Quartetto Amati. With violinist Oleksandr Semchuk (teacher and head of string department at Imola Piano Academy) he toured in several cities of Ucraine and Italy.
In 2012 he starts collaboration with pianist Maria Ala-Hannula (Ebony pianoduo) touring with the complete works of Debussy and other works for piano duet in Italy (Brescia, Cremona, Verona, Bellagio, Trento, Mantova, Potenza) and Finland (Sibelius Museum Turku, Kokkola Konservatorio and others). In 2015 the duo premiered in Italy Elastic Time, a composition by Eero Hammeniemi, commisioned by Eterotopie Piano Festival.
Zunica is founder and artistic director of Eterotopie Piano Festival held in Mantova since 2004. He’s teaching piano at Mantova Liceo Musicale and in his Accademia del Pianoforte developing the piano education of young talents. Many of his students has been winning prices in national and international piano competitions.
